Pool & Venue Sizing Calculator
How much water, track and fencing a kart boat fleet needs — worked out from a 15-boat venue we proposed, with the bumper boat pool rules kept on a separate line.
Almost every "how big a pool do I need" guide in this category is written for bumper boats: a 12 by 6 metre pool for six or seven of them, 36 inches of depth, 250 square feet per boat. A kart boat circuit is a different shape of problem — a track, run-off around it and a spectator zone, not a rectangle.
This calculator works from one kart boat venue we proposed: 15 boats, a 634 metre track, 18,228 square metres of water, 1,368 metres of guardrail and 18 berths. Every coefficient on the page comes from that single venue, so the results are an order-of-magnitude guide rather than a standard.
Nothing here is a construction drawing. Spacing, run-off and depth have to be set by the contractor who designs the site.
Venue sizing calculator
Pick how you know the site, and the calculator works out the rest. Every figure below comes from the one kart boat venue in the table above, so the results describe a track-type venue rather than a bumper boat pool.
You have a track length and want to know how many boats it carries.

Spacing capacity is what the track physically holds at this spacing. The recommended fleet is the lower number the proposal allows for a track of this length.
Seat mix is an allocation guide. It is not a specification for a particular venue.
Spacing in hull lengths is calculated from the published hull length of the model you selected. It is a comparison figure, not a safety distance.
What this calculator does not do
- It does not set out a site. Spacing, run-off, depth and barriers are set by the contractor who designs the venue, against the local rules for the site.
- The bumper boat figures in the table above describe a 1.82 metre diameter bumper boat in a contained pool. They are not requirements for a kart boat track.
- It does not tell you that a given venue is enough. It tells you what the figures add up to on one reference venue, so you can compare it against your own site.
15-boat standard venue
One kart boat venue we proposed in 2026, published here without the client name or any drawing detail.
- Fleet
- 15 boats
- 18 berths, pontoon rated for 25

- 90 m acceleration straight, fast bends, an S-bend, short straights and a run of hairpins back to the finish straight

- Track, run-off and spectator area included
- Guardrail
- 1,368 m
- Energy-absorbing chain, priced separately
Boats run 20–30 m apart on this track, with 15 m as the minimum, and the operating speed was 20–35 km/h. On a track of 600 m or more the proposal capped the fleet at 20 boats, and this venue ran 15 — below that cap, and well below the 21–31 boats the track physically allows at that spacing.
Two calibers, side by side
Most published pool sizing advice in this category describes bumper boats, which navigate a contained rectangle rather than a circuit. The figures are worth reading because they are what a lot of buyers will find first — but they are marked, because they are not requirements for a kart boat track.

The bumper boat figures describe a 1.82 metre diameter craft in a contained pool, and ASTM F2460 is the bumper boat standard. They are not requirements for a kart boat circuit. Where the two calibers disagree, the kart boat venue row is the one that describes a track.
